140 people on Australian cruises are attacked by stomach ulcers
Sydney's 15-storey yacht Sun Princess Cruise, which operates in Australia, has returned to the quay in Brisbane on Thursday after 140 passengers suffered from stomach ulcers and intestines, a second outbreak in less than a month.
The cruise ship from Brisbane to New Zealand was tainted by the disease when several passengers became aware of the dangers of norovirus transmission and descended in Auckland.
"There are people who get sick around us, our cabin is cleaned by people in hazmat dresses, and many people are seriously ill," a passenger told local media, as quoted by Xinhua. "So, my brother and I decided to leave the ship."
In early February, the vessel experienced an epidemic identical to gastroenteritis in a voyage to Papua New Guinea, where 90 passengers were thought to have fallen due to norovirus.
The Sun Princess cruise ship, which faces much criticism, reportedly offered no compensation to passengers at the moment and in one statement has denied how serious the event is.
"On certain days during the voyage, 12 to 15 out of 2,000 guests are placed in isolias spaces due to disease symptoms, before they resume their normal activities on cruise ships," the ship operator said.
"During the voyage, no one was sick in large quantities," he said, Xinhua reported.
